God’s grace is already reaching toward us. But when we cling to sin, excuses, pride, bitterness, or old patterns, we resist what that grace wants to do in us. Repentance clears those things out of the way. We turn from what is false so that the grace of God can forgive us, free us, change us, and produce something new in our lives.
We don’t repent to earn grace. We repent because grace has come looking for us—and we want to make room for what God wants to do.
