JJ Spurling

I am a follower of Jesus Christ, husband to Karen, father to Jeffrey and Jasmine, and the lead pastor of Kapahulu Bible Church in Honolulu, Hawaii. Theologically, I would describe myself as a Reformed Charismatic. I believe the Bible is God’s authoritative Word, that salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone, and that the Holy Spirit continues to work through all the gifts described in Scripture today. At the same time, I believe those gifts should always be exercised in a way that is biblical, orderly, loving, and centered on Christ.

Outside of ministry, I’ve always enjoyed figuring things out. I love learning how things work and then trying my hand at them myself. Over the years that curiosity has led me into hobbies such as roasting coffee, wine making, and most recently beekeeping. Whether I’m studying Scripture, developing leaders, tending a beehive, or experimenting with a new project, I enjoy the process of discovery and the opportunity to marvel at God’s wisdom in both His Word and His creation.
