Dear KBC Ohana,

After watching the weather and praying over this decision, your elders have decided to cancel our in-person services today. We do not want anyone traveling in these conditions to gather. Your safety, and the safety of your families, matters far more to us than meeting in the building this one Sunday.

Here is where things stand this morning. The National Weather Service has Oahu under a Tropical Storm Warning, a Flood Watch through late tonight, and a High Surf Warning for east-facing shores. Tropical-storm-force winds and heavy rain are spreading across the island today, with the real possibility of flash flooding, mudslides, and flooded roadways. The state has closed its campuses, suspended bus service, and officials are urging everyone to stay off the roads. A number of our sister congregations here in town have made the same decision to cancel. We believe this is the wise and loving thing to do.

We had hoped to offer our livestream so you could still worship with us from home. In all honesty, that is unlikely. Our livestream depends on our tech team being able to get to the church safely, and we are not willing to ask anyone to travel flooded roads to make it happen. If conditions clear enough this morning that our team can come in safely, we will do our best to go live and let you know — but please plan as though online service will not be available, and do not wait on us.

So today, worship right where you are. Open your Bible, sing, and pray with your household. If it helps, spend time in Psalm 46 — "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble... Be still, and know that I am God." He is no less present in your living room than in our sanctuary.

Please stay indoors, check on your neighbors — especially those who are older or live alone — and keep our whole church family in prayer through this storm. We will gather again soon, and we look forward to worshiping together when it is safe to do so.

Stay home, stay safe, and rest in the Lord's care.
